Even little step sequencers grow up. Only a couple of years ago, Korg released the SQ-1, and now present its bigger brother: the SQ-64 step sequencer. An all-around studio and live-performance machine fitted with 85 buttons and 6 rotary controls, the SQ-64 is anything but little and will no doubt claim a prominent spot in your set-up. Even more so if that's a Eurorack system, because this powerful bit of kit is fully equipped to be hooked up to one of those and features a small army of matching inputs and outputs, including MIDI (mini-jacks) and USB-MIDI.

In terms of numbers, the SQ-64 offers three melodic tracks with a length of 64 steps, and that times 16. For each track, you can adjust the gate, pitch and modulation per step, and there's even a drum track consisting of 16 monophonic tracks, where the polarity and voltage can be tweaked per output to optimally match your gear. From chaining and looping patterns to the arpeggiator with useful extra options such as reverse, bounce, random and stochastic, it'll likely take some time before you hit the limit of what this potent step sequencer is capable of.

Physical Traits

Korg have outfitted the SQ-64 with a clear OLED display so you can easily keep track of what's going on, while the back of the unit is home to an extensive collection of inputs and outputs. Next to the jacks and USB-MIDI port mentioned earlier, there are sync, CV and gate connectors, so whether you're fully focussed on step sequencing or want to expand your Eurorack system, Korg's SQ-64 has got you covered.
